When choosing the type of decoration required in a room, the level of
finish to the plasterboard linings needs careful consideration.
The Manufacturers recommendation for the proper coverage of
plasterboard is for the use of a suitable sealer over the entire surface
in order to equalise porosity.
Choice of colours is important as darker colours tend to highlight
imperfections. White, or light colours, give better reflection and are
recommended for ceilings.
If gloss paints are to be used in large open plan rooms with vast areas
of uncurtained windows, then the highest level of finish is essential.
However, if cost factors preclude this investment, then very careful
consideration must be given to:
- The placement of windows
- The type of lighting
- The standard of paint finish
- The positioning of joints; both butt and recess
Note: horizontal joints are recommended for walls with areas of severe
glancing light.
PAINT SPECIFICATION
For best results a three coat system is recommended with a sealer being
used for the first coat:
- to prevent undue absorption of the binder from the subsequent coat
of paint.
- to equalise the surface between two entirely different materials.
